Big Canvas is a 501c3 based in Omaha, Nebraska. It's more than a passion project, it's a community and family. It's 100% volunteer and still growing as we improve ourselves and our community through laughter.
Big Canvas started with five people with a big dream: to help their community with comedy. Back in 2014, Doug Rothgeb, Eric Green, Tracie Mauk, Heather Jones, and Lindsey Theis (hey, that's me!) took a leap of faith after performing together and sharing value of making sure there were safe places for people of any age or background to enjoy comedy. Each brought a variety of talents and decades of combined experience performing. They came with Improv, stand up, sketch comedy, broadcasting, digital, and theatre experience. Needless to say, it was never a dull moment. And they did this all-volunteer, all on their own time.
In 2016, The Board of Directors was formally organized as Big Canvas operates under their direction. Over the past five years, we've taught and performed anywhere we could: theaters, coworking spaces, libraries, basements, coffee shops, and bars. In 2019, we'll accomplish a major milestone of opening up our very own theater space, so we can offer permanent classes and shows for adults and children in the community. You can donate to help others grow through improv here.
